General Guidelines

In each biannual issue, DR publishes exemplary poetry, prose, book reviews, interviews, and art. We aim to present emerging regional writers on the same stage as established national and international authors—we seek quality above all. The best way to determine what we’re looking for is to read what we’ve been publishing in earlier issues

Genre-specific submission guidelines:

  • DR accepts poetry and prose submissions year round. We try to respond to submissions within 2-4 months, but due to our production schedule a response may take up to 6 months. If you have not heard back regarding your submission after six months, you may query section editors.
  • DR accepts simultaneous submissions, but we request that you withdraw a piece that has been accepted elsewhere by contacting section editors.
  • All submissions must be typed (poetry, single-spaced and prose, doubled-spaced) and properly formatted then sent as attachments to or  Formats accepted: doc, PDF, rtf only.
  • Please do not send us your work more than twice per year. Please wait until you receive a reply regarding a submission before you submit the next.
  • DR does not, as a practice, publish work that has been previously published elsewhere. In rare occasions, we reserve the right to do so.
  • Please see our Contest page for information about our annual Flash Fiction Contest.
